Troubleshooting
Diagnose browser, session and account failures.
semrush-cli doctor --json
semrush-cli auth status --json
semrush-cli auth status --check --jsonGalleton unavailable
Run semrush-cli setup once, then semrush-cli daemon start after reboot or a deliberate shutdown. The daemon's private log is ~/.local/share/semrush-cli/galleton/daemon.log. Keep that directory private. If port 8768 belongs to another process, stop that process deliberately or use your own Galleton instance through the documented configuration.
Browser unavailable
Run semrush-cli setup to install Chromium. On Linux, install missing browser libraries with npx patchright install-deps chromium. SEMRUSH_BROWSER_EXECUTABLE can select an installed Chromium binary. Headless report commands do not require a graphical desktop; auth login does.
Session expired or renewal blocked
Run semrush-cli auth login, or reimport a signed-in browser. Restart your MCP client. The tool does not bypass login, CAPTCHA, account revocation or provider challenges. A Galleton cookie refresh cannot guarantee that Semrush will keep a session valid.
Report denied or empty
Your account's plan, product permissions, history access and quotas apply. A read-only request can consume a report allowance. Paid search, AI and historical reports can be restricted independently. A failure is not an empty dataset. Check the same report in Semrush before changing the command.
Changed web endpoints
Internal Semrush endpoints can change. Open an issue with the command, CLI version and a redacted error message. Never attach cookies, browser profiles, daemon tokens or bootstrap HTML.
Uninstall
semrush-cli auth logout
semrush-cli daemon stop
npm uninstall -g semrush-cliThe private vault and browser cache remain on disk. Remove them yourself only after confirming they contain no sessions you need. This tool never deletes another application's browser profile.
